Paver Patio with Fire Pit Zone & Playset Mulch Bed

Vision & Site Conditions
The homeowners wanted a family-friendly backyard: an easy-to-maintain patio for gatherings, a safe dedicated zone for a smokeless fire pit, and a clean mulch bed ready for a playset—everything tied together with smooth curves.
Design & Material Spec
We planned a flowing patio in cool gray pavers with a contrasting charcoal soldier-course border. The layout includes a circular inlay for the fire pit and a framed mulch area beside the patio. Drainage is handled with a gentle 1–2% slope away from the house, polymeric sand joints, and a compacted base for long-term stability.
Build & Results
We excavated and installed a compacted stone base, set multi-size pavers in a modular pattern, and hand-shaped the curves with a charcoal border. A circular inlay was built as the fire pit zone (shown with decorative stone placeholder until the unit is set). Adjacent to the patio, we framed and filled a mulch bed prepped with a weed barrier for the homeowner's playset (playset not installed by us).
